Five things we learnt in rugby – December

first_img Saints smashed: Quins’ Dave Ward leaves the Northampton defence trailing. Photo: Getty Images TAGS: Northampton Saints Two No 2s: Jamie George and Dylan Hartley in England training. Photo: Getty ImagesJamie George is by some distance the best hooker in English rugby, with a consistency of performance that is now impossible to ignore, while Luke Cowan-Dickie not far behind.Jones doesn’t shy away from making horribly blunt team selections and substitutions, just ask fellow Northampton Saint Teimana Harrison, but equally he will not be pressurised into any decision that isn’t purely his. The Hartley issue seems like the latter and isn’t likely to change any time soon. I would have found it easier to explain why a man, led by eight land-based mammals, was able to circumnavigate the world in 24 hours in the air than why Elliot Dee was cited for his ‘push’ on Andrew Brace in the Dragons‘ game against Cardiff Blues. It was quite farcical.Forward march: Elliot Dee on the charge for the Dragons. Photo: Getty ImagesWe all understand that there should be zero contact on the referee, but if a referee gets his positioning so wrong that he finds himself standing in such a narrow channel, then some of the responsibility to avoid contact is surely also his?Players already have enough to worry about with 19st monsters flying down their channel, without having to fret over accidentally nudging a 12st bloke off his feet. It was a silly episode more suited to the panto season, not the rugby season. “Heeeeee’s beeeeeeehind you, ref!”FOR THE LATEST SUBSCRIPTION OFFERS, CLICK HEREJordan Larmour goes full 1990sIf you haven’t seen Jordan Larmour’s try against Munster then I suggest you watch it below. It was glorious. A genuine throwback to the 1990s and the age of Christian Cullen. No spreadsheet rugby, no protein shake required and no bench-press record, just a 20-year-old stepping his guts out like he was trying to outrun an overzealous citing officer (see above). Three glorious steps, two off the left foot, one off the right, and six defenders left wondering what was happening. It also begs the question why we only really see plays like this from young, inexperienced players? It is very rare that you see a seasoned northern hemisphere international even try to break from their own half. Is it over-coaching? A fear of losing the ball having been drilled into them as they move up through the ranks? Either way I want to see more of Jordan Larmour. Hat tip.Eddie Jones has a decision to make at hookerIt is very difficult to criticise Eddie Jones. Why would you want to? His turn around of the England squad has been nothing short of seismic. However, one question remains unasked even though everyone is thinking it. Dylan Hartley is probably even asking it. Why is Dylan Hartley being picked as the starting hooker for England? LATEST RUGBY WORLD MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION DEALS Paul Williams takes a look at the goings-on in the game at the end of 2017 Northampton continue to slideOrdinarily, Leicester Tigers’ sixth defeat in a row would grab the headlines were it not that 37 miles down the road Northampton Saints continue with a bizarre run of form. It’s a run of games that move beyond defeats and lie firmly in the ‘absolutely pasted’ category.Saints, as a collective, haven’t had it this bad since Pope Paul VI removed 93 of them from the Catholic calendar in 1969. Many of them were removed on the basis that their achievements/miracles were based on myth, not fact, which draws a rather neat parallel with Northampton’s defensive completion of late.Against Harlequins, Saints finished the game with a completion of just 63%. After 40 minutes, the percentage was as low as 56%, which meant that they were nearly missing every other tackle. Add to that sizeable defeats by a struggling Ospreys team and the severity of the situation becomes even clearer. The reality is that if London Irish weren’t having such a disappointing season, Saints would be facing a relegation battle. Alan Gaffney has some major New Year’s Resolutions to sort out.France hire a French coach – againThere was one final turkey killed off in December – France’s experiment with Guy Noves at the helm. It would be unfair to blame Noves for everything that is wrong with French rugby. It was broken before he arrived and will be broken for some time to come. The Top 14 simply isn’t set up with any sympathy for Test rugby and the national team’s performances prove that. However, what is perhaps even stranger than Noves’s appointment in the first place is that the FFR have once again opted for an ‘older’ French coach in Jacques Brunel. It’s an approach French rugby doesn’t adopt when it comes to recruiting players for their league and picking residency-qualified players in their Test team.Head man: Jacques Brunel is the new France coach. Photo: Getty ImagesThe Top 14 is propped up by Pacific Islanders and big name SANZAAR player, yet there is a reluctance to adopt that recruitment policy when it comes to head coaches for the national team. The FFR could afford to hire anyone they like, yet they chose once again to look inwards. The mess doesn’t end there either. The FFR are pursuing Noves and his staff for misconduct in the hope that they don’t have to pay out the full contracts. Still, at least the Top 14 is going well, which is all French rugby seems to care about.Elliot Dee citing was embarrassinglast_img read more

Our national team players have proven it several times. As the host, Lithuania is in slight advantage, but also under greater pressure. Both national teams have lost two matches at the Championships. B&H is entering tonight’s match with four consecutive victories, while the Lithuanians have two defeats and two victories from the past four matches.Just like last night, a lot will depend on Sani Campara who is having control over the BH offensive. In its team B&H also has the second shooter of the Championships Dzenan Musa, who scores an average of 22.1 points per match.Musa is the first assistant of the tournament and the fifth basketball player when it comes to rebounds. The other three production facilities are based in Germany, China and the US.According to MBSA spokesperson Annelise van der Laan, the investment will create more jobs. “We expect about 1 500 to 2 000 new job opportunities, mainly at the supplier level,” she said.“The investment is for preparation and installation of new equipment, the latest manufacturing technology, training and skills development. Further investment at supplier level is expected,” said Van der Laan.MBSA are said to be exporting the cars to markets in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.Excellent production qualityDaimler AG board of management member Wolfgang Bernhard said MBSA East London was chosen for its superior production quality and its recognition as one of the best plants in the industry.“MBSA has managed to provide us with a business and production plan that is competitive globally. Hence, our decision to build the next-generation of our C-Class at the East London plant is a logical step.”Hansgeorg Niefer, MBSA’s CEO, expressed his delight that the facility was selected to continue building this particular range, which it has done since the mid-1990s.“Just recently we exported the 100 000th C-Class built in East London. In the first quarter of next year we should reach the half-million mark of C-Class vehicles produced locally since 1994, the model’s start of production in South Africa.”New model, new technologyNiefer said more than a dozen new technologies would be brought to South Africa for the car and production processes.“MBSA will localise more than 40% of the components for this new vehicle. We expect to see more investors and new suppliers, all with the latest technologies, coming to the country.”Niefer added that, depending on market demand, the plant has the capacity to add a third shift which would allow it to run 24 hours per working day.He emphasised that the investment into the East London plant is one of many made in the last 10 years – a total of over R5-billion ($726-million).Van der Laan was mum on the details regarding the range’s design and features. “As the model is only due for release in 2014, details on design, styling, special features, new technology and pricing will not be made available due to the competitive nature of the auto industry,” she said. The R2-billion investment would create as much as 2 000 jobs in East London.last_img read more

South Africa’s BRIC membership to boost country

The country is recognised as a developing economy of significance in its own right, but also that it is the gateway to the continent of Africa – the next growth superstar,” said Matola.Matola expressed his belief that this is a good step for South Africa, not only economically but also politically. He said a new world order is unfolding where economic clout – and therefore political power – is shifting from West to East, with the BRIC countries as the visible face of this movement.South Africa, along with other emerging economies, has long been punting for a greater role in international organisations like the IMF and the World Bank.Enhancing South Africa’s influenceMatola added that the invitation to join BRIC, combined with South Africa’s renewed membership of the UN Security Council, will enhance the country’s influence in this regard too.He predicted important opportunities opening up on the investment and trade front, with private companies possibly finding it easier to gain a foothold into BRIC markets. Partnerships with BRIC-based companies may also bloom.“This might become particularly important as South Africa is already the biggest emerging economy investor in the continent and its companies are active in at least half of all African countries,” Matola said.Joining BRIC – soon to be BRICS – will also mean that South Africa must use these new opportunities to increase its competitive edge.Last year, the country’s ranking in the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum dropped, but its performance has in fact remained stable. Rather, the decline reflects improvements from other countries and their ability to spur growth.“South Africa will play in a different league and as such, will have to improve its delivery and performance,” said Matola.“To draw South Africa into this powerful club underlines the country’s growing international role and its future significance for those who want to make use of the expanding African opportunities.“It is, in fact, an association that does not only benefit the group, but the emerging world as a whole and Africa, in particular,” he said.It is expected that South Africa will be accepted formally as a new BRIC member at these emerging powers’ next summit in April.+27 12 351 0279 or +27 82 889 9432Read more: /index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1921:bric-230810&catid=45:economynews&Itemid=114#ixzz1BYvpAL57last_img read more

Wahl Colour Coded Plastic Comb Attachments – Delighted with this set

first_imgTerrific substitution wahl comb heads. Purchased to swap my original comb heads which have lastly started out to have on out. These are considerably much better excellent and in good shape to the clippers with a secure and reassuring clunk. In use they seem to glide over the scalp with ease and are significantly a lot more pleasant to use. Measurement range is quite superior right up to 25mm (one inch) and the holder and colour coding are an exceptional addition. A effectively made merchandise that need to give yrs of delighted clipping.Best for the wahl tremendous taper clipper. A tiny costly but a superior high quality than the ones provided with the wahl super taper which they healthy correctly.I’ve been making use of clippers on my hair for years and saved pots of income. Admittedly, my spouse thinks i must improve my hair. Now my boys (aged six and eight) are costing £10 – £12 for each haircut. Soon after their previous dreadful ‘scissors’ haircut at the hairdressers, my spouse tasked me with discovering some chopping guides among five and eight. Colour coded, a neat minor storage container included, not the most inexpensive, but well worth it. And, with just one trim they paid out for on their own. Extremely rapidly dispatched as properly. Here are the specifications for the Wahl Colour Coded Plastic Comb Attachments:Wahl^Colour Coded^Plastic Comb Attachments^For Standard Multi Cut ClippersI acquired these purely so i could come across the proper number quickly and not have to rummage for it.I examine some evaluations that the top quality of the plastic was no excellent, but i think they are fantastic and inline with the sort of plastic guides you uncover in hair clippers. Pretty difficult to get an invoice from the vendor tan bar.Reviews from purchasers :Solid – works as describedA decent replacementDepends On The Pressure You UseVery pleased all round!Nice cutting guidesDelighted with this setThese in shape on very well and i like the colour coding. Only slight difficulty is they really don’t suit that snugly into the container if its standing up correct as they have a tendency to slip out. What a wonderful plan to identify the comb measurements by colour. What a wonderful strategy to discover the comb sizes by colour. Great high quality combs, neat storage and acceptable priced.Extremely good, much better good quality than the combs that appear with the clippers. We are really pleased with our invest in, no difficulty at with the products. It suits very well to the previous clipper, and the youngsters don’t complain any more that it would pull their hair as the previous 1 did. Also retains the clipper box tidy and we really don’t have to search really difficult to come across the desired attachment as it is numbered, colour coded and saved in its specific shelf.A ought to have merchandise to compliment any wahl clippers. Super solid & tremendous handy. I acquired this item to compliment my present established of wahl clippers. It really is a pretty easy product so there isn’t a ton to be explained or for that matter to go mistaken. The colour coding can make life definitely uncomplicated, as does the included storage tray to continue to keep all your attachments together and organised. The guides are numbered plainly in addition to the colour coding so there is minimal possibility you’ll decide up the incorrect one particular by blunder. What amazed me most about this merchandise was the all round build excellent, i envisioned anything made of flimsy plastic and i was pleasantly amazed for discover something so strong. That goes for the clips that hold the attachment to the clippers as very well holding them firmly in spot though in use.Not difficult like most guards, these just glide by the hair.I really like these and they come in a tray with numbered. I bought these brightly coloured attachments as i am generally dropping my standard kinds at operate. I adore these and they come in a tray with numbered sections so no scrabbling close to wanting for the ideal attachment. The good quality and suit are exceptional and the shipping was pretty rapidly so fantastic company all spherical.Excellent product – precisely what i need to have to change aged and damaged versions from original clipper set. Truly properly introduced far too and easy to use. The merchandise arrived genuinely speedily from buying so incredibly pleased.O) wonderful product ~ great vendor a1 ~ perfectly suggested ~. :o) good merchandise ~ outstanding seller a1 ~ effectively advisable ~ enjoyment undertaking enterprise with you ~ thank you. These are a great substitute for my worn out chopping guides for the wahl hair trimmer i have been using on my head and experience for the previous 10 decades or so. They are made from slighly additional rigid plastic which suggests that they flex considerably less and cut my hair at a much more even size as perfectly as cutting down the chance of them slipping off of the trimmer totally. The disadvantage is that they are a tiny fewer relaxed as they slide across my head. The colour coding is a simple but terrific idea as well.Wonderful product or service, as explained. Really quick to use specified all the sizes are distinct colors so you do not get blended up.I needed far more choice for my dog clipping and this established undoubtedly matches the invoice. The holder is a good assistance maintaining the combs in correct purchase and the colours are useful as well.Depends on the strain you use. I have blended thoughts about this solution. It depends on who cuts your hair or how you cut it on your own. I am 1 of the men and women that places as a great deal tension on the clipper as doable when accomplishing mine. The situation with that being any grade earlier mentioned #one bends and brings about uneven grading. The grade 1 holds up ok due to the fact the plastic currently being so compact it wont bend. Im confident they will be high-quality of someone else is cutting your hair or you have a gentle touch but be thorough if you push difficult like me.Female friend cherished these l purchased her for perform she couldn’t hold out to show them off to her mates.Amazon normally provides entry to the very best costs and this was no exception. Nevertheless, i do really feel that it really is still very high priced, while the seller supplied exceptional assistance.Colored clippers are a pretty good plan. I assume the notion of diverse coloured blades makes it significantly less complicated to guarantee you have the suitable blade. I have picked up the wrong blade beforehand with all black types, and cut the hair as well shorter.last_img read more

DIY Filmmaking: Build a $60 Dolly for Lightweight Cameras

first_imgBuild a very basic dolly rig for DSLR and mirrorless cameras for under $60.All images and GIFs via David F Sandberg/ponysmasher Lights Out director David F Sandberg shows you how to build a very simple DIY dolly rig in one of the best tutorial videos ever made. Seriously. Can we just go ahead and make all video tutorials like this? Here is the video from his ponysmasher YouTube channel. These are the supplies and steps you need to know and follow.Supplies (~$58.44)Wood (Big enough to hold your extended tripod)4 Corner Brackets8 Bolts and Nuts8 Wood Screws8 Skateboard WheelsPVC Pipe 1. Attach the four corner brackets to the piece of wood using the wood screws. Trim the excess screws off with a saw.2. Attach two skateboard wheels to each of the brackets. (Remember to do this after attaching the brackets.)3. Place the wood platform with wheels on the PVC pipe.4. Place your tripod on the wood platform. Tape into place to firmly attach it. Add your camera to the tripod and you’re done.If you need to extend your rails, connect multiple pieces of PVC pipe together. It’s easier to transport shorter pipe with connectors, rather than trying to lug around and transport long pipes. Be sure to connect through the inside of the pipe to keep the dolly smooth. If the PVC pipe is thin and flexible, you can slice a short piece of PVC open and stick it in between two longer pieces. If the PVC pipe is thicker, get a smaller pipe to slide inside. You can use gaff tape to make a point for the pieces to connect. Now, like Sandberg said, this isn’t going to hold an ALEXA or studio camera. It’s great for mirrorless, DSLRs, or lightweight Blackmagic cameras. Now take Sandberg’s advice and go make movies, not excuses. Well, also make the dolly, too.You can download both of Sandberg’s posters here.Want more DIY filmmaking? Ministry and JTA Reach Agreement on Teaching Council Bill

first_imgEducation Minister, Rev. the Hon. Ronald Thwaites, says progress has been made in discussions between the Ministry and the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) on the proposed Jamaica Teaching Council Bill. The Bill, which the Minister is working to have tabled in the House of Representatives during the current 2012/13 parliamentary year, seeks to provide for the establishment of a governing body for the teaching profession, and institute a regime for the licensing and registration of all government paid teachers. It also gives legal powers to the Council to immediately suspend and cancel the registration of a teacher, who is charged for what is deemed a disqualifiable offence, which includes: sexual offences, murder, pornography, robbery, and fraud. Speaking at the JTA’s Roll of Honour Award Ceremony at the Wyndham Kingston Hotel on Thursday (November 8), Rev. Thwaites informed that the Ministry and JTA, supported by representatives of the church and Parent/Teachers Associations (PTA), have reached a “substantial agreement” on the terms of the Bill. He said that the legislation will provide for “the professionalism of the teaching profession”. “This legislation should not cause any more trepidation than the Legal Profession Act does for the lawyers or the Medical Act (does) for the doctors, or for any other profession. It would…be a serious reproach to teachers if they resist such a move. I am pleased (about) the commitment of your association, in this regard,” the Minister added. Rev. Thwaites recently disclosed that the Bill had undergone upwards of eight months of consultations with various stakeholders, while informing of plans for further dialogue with additional interests before it is tabled in Parliament. Meanwhile, retired Principal of the Mandeville Primary and Junior High School in Manchester, Byron Farquharson, is this year’s 43rd inductee into the JTA’s Honour Roll. He was presented with the Berger Paints-sponsored Roll of Honour Award by the company’s Caribbean Regional Managing Director, Warren McDonald, and a special Citation, by JTA President, Clayton Hall.last_img read more
