The coastal town of East London might not be one of the nine 2010 Fifa World Cup™ host cities, but it is making strides to attract football fans looking for places to travel in June and July. “Our accommodation, tourism and hospitality establishments have lined themselves up to receive those that will be staying and passing by East London during this period,” the spokesperson for what is also known as Buffalo City, Samkelo Ngwenya, told Fifa.com. “On the outskirts of our city, our communities are ready to showcase to tourists the unique cultures and ‘ubuntu’ that South Africans are renowned for. This article was first published on Fifa.com “One of our biggest advantages to travellers is our centrality in South Africa,” Ngwenya said. “We are less than two hours away by air from all major cities (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban), and a three-hour road trip from Nelson Mandela Bay/Port Elizabeth, where eight World Cup games will be taking place.” Football has always competed with rugby and cricket in this part of the country. East London is home to cricket great Makhaya Ntini, who was also one of the draw assistants at the World Cup Final Draw in Cape Town in December. Probably the most famous footballer to emerge from East London is former Bafana Bafana player Brendon Augustine, who was part of the team that went to South Africa’s first Fifa World Cup in 1998. Less than 20 kilometres from East London is the Mdantsane township, the second biggest township in South Africa. The township has produced the majority of the country’s boxing world champions, including Welcome Ncita, Vuyani Bungu, Masibulele Makhepula. Fifa.com takes a look at some key attractions in the area. Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve Situated 30km outside East London, Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve is one of the area’s prime tourists attractions. The game reserve includes game drives and luxury accommodation. You can also enjoy mountain biking, hiking and other activities. Since it’s only five kilometres from the beaches and a river, it also offers canoeing, surfing and most other watersports. Chill at Chintsa One of the most impressive places in East London is Chintsa – the vast area that lies along the shores of the Indian Ocean. It is a perfect holiday destination, with lots of places to go to. One such place is the Buccaneers backpackers, located between Chintsa East and Chintsa West and regarded as one of the best backpackers in South Africa. You will also find a number of restaurants and other holiday destinations in the area, including Dwa-dwa Park, Crawfords Beach Lodge and Mangaliso Guest House. Enjoy the beaches Among the favourite activities for the locals is to take a walk along one of the city’s many beaches. When in East London, you have plenty of choices. Your first stop might be the Orient and Eastern Beach, situated next to the majority of the city’s hotels on the beachfront. However, you can also explore a number of other options, including Nahoon Beach, Gonubie and Beacon Bay. Kaiser’s Beach and Cove Rock, a few kilometres from the city en route to Port Elizabeth, offer excellent swimming and surfing. Steve Biko Garden of Remembrance Steve Biko, the brains behind the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa, was killed in police custody in 1978. The film Cry Freedom, which tells his story, helped awaken the world to the suffering and injustice of the fomer apartheid regime in South Africa. Biko was born in King William’s Town, about 25 minutes drive from East London, and his statue stands tall next to East London’s City Hall. Source: Fifa.com

Build a very basic dolly rig for DSLR and mirrorless cameras for under $60.All images and GIFs via David F Sandberg/ponysmasher Lights Out director David F Sandberg shows you how to build a very simple DIY dolly rig in one of the best tutorial videos ever made. Seriously. Can we just go ahead and make all video tutorials like this? Here is the video from his ponysmasher YouTube channel. These are the supplies and steps you need to know and follow.Supplies (~$58.44)Wood (Big enough to hold your extended tripod)4 Corner Brackets8 Bolts and Nuts8 Wood Screws8 Skateboard WheelsPVC Pipe 1. Attach the four corner brackets to the piece of wood using the wood screws. Trim the excess screws off with a saw.2. Attach two skateboard wheels to each of the brackets. (Remember to do this after attaching the brackets.)3. Place the wood platform with wheels on the PVC pipe.4. Place your tripod on the wood platform. Tape into place to firmly attach it. Add your camera to the tripod and you’re done.If you need to extend your rails, connect multiple pieces of PVC pipe together. It’s easier to transport shorter pipe with connectors, rather than trying to lug around and transport long pipes. Be sure to connect through the inside of the pipe to keep the dolly smooth. If the PVC pipe is thin and flexible, you can slice a short piece of PVC open and stick it in between two longer pieces. If the PVC pipe is thicker, get a smaller pipe to slide inside. You can use gaff tape to make a point for the pieces to connect. Now, like Sandberg said, this isn’t going to hold an ALEXA or studio camera. It’s great for mirrorless, DSLRs, or lightweight Blackmagic cameras. Now take Sandberg’s advice and go make movies, not excuses. Well, also make the dolly, too.You can download both of Sandberg’s posters here.Want more DIY filmmaking? Be sure to check out all of our DIY posts and keep up with the blog for more.

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – The Trudeau government is releasing more details about its plan to tackle homelessness in Canada. The minister for social development says beginning in April, the feds will be ramping up the amount of cash handed out to communities struggling with a homelessness problem. It will increase the number of communities receiving the funding the following year.By 2022, the federal government plans to spend $237-million to address the issue, which is double the amount that was allocated when the Liberals first took office. It is all part of a 10 year, $2.2-billion strategy, called ‘Reaching Home.’The government is also expected to soon introduce legislation in parliament to set an official poverty line for the country, and set out a goal of slashing the poverty rate in half by the year 2030.The law would also create a council on poverty to advise the minister and require annual reports to Parliament on the government’s progress.Ottawa is promising dedicated funding for the territories and says there will also be new spending targeting Indigenous Peoples.-With files from the Canadian Press and Sonia Aslam
The seniors on the Ohio State football team cannot play for championships this year. Not for trophies. Not for banners. So they plan to play for their fellow classmates. “We’re playing for each other,” said senior defensive end John Simon. “And when you come in here every day and work out with these guys, you really don’t want to let them down.” The 2012 season will be absent of even a chance to compete for the Big Ten Conference and national championships as a result of the NCAA-imposed bowl ban dating back to December 2011. Former coach Jim Tressel knowingly fielded ineligible players during the 2010 season after six players – former quarterback Terrelle Pryor, former running back Daniel “Boom” Herron, former wide receiver DeVier Posey, former offensive tackle Mike Adams, former defensive end Solomon Thomas and former linebacker Jordan Whiting – traded memorabilia for tattoos, resulting in a vacation of wins for that season, donation of team’s winnings from the 2011 Sugar Bowl victory against Arkansas to charity and a ban that will keep the team out of postseason action this fall. Pressure mounted, and Tressel was eventually forced to resign from his post as Buckeyes coach on May 30, 2011. Simon recounted the dark moments. “It was a tough time,” Simon said. “But we’re a new team and we’re doing everything we can to get better.” Senior players are looking beyond the NCAA-imposed limitations the coming season holds and focusing on the things they can control. “We’re just focused on our first game of the season,” said senior running back Jordan Hall. “We aren’t focusing on what we can’t do, only on what we can do.” And the OSU football team will need that focus heading into a season that is sure to face even higher expectations with the addition of new coach Urban Meyer. Meyer’s arrival has turned into a complete program transformation – from the pre-Spring Game circle drill where players collided with one another to the overhaul of the team’s nutritional strategies – that has made a strong call to senior players to take control of the team. “Coach Meyer is always talking about leaders,” said senior linebacker Etienne Sabino. “And (we) want to be the leaders of this team.” And leadership is not limited to the field – Simon said leading begins away from Ohio Stadium and at the indoor practice facility. “It’s all about coming in and doing extra,” he said. “The senior class is really stepping up into a leadership role … showing the young guys the ropes, reading the playbooks with them, whatever it takes. We’re just trying to have the best offseason possible.” Meyer and the OSU coaching staff have praised Simon for his role as a “workout warrior,” and said he and his fellow seniors are doing everything they can to either be in the classroom or in the gym. And the senior players said the extra effort is partially because this season will be the last time they represent the Buckeyes on the field. “It’s the last time for everything,” Sabino said. “Every time you go out there, it’s your last first day of camp, last Spring Game. You just know it’s your last one.” And the thought of a final season in a Buckeye uniform is bittersweet for Simon. “The years go fast,” Simon said. “But I’m just looking forward to winning every game. That’s our goal this year, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.” Winning is the only thing that will take away the sting from last year’s tumultuous season, said senior tight end Jake Stoneburner. “We’re out to prove that we’re a better team than we were last year,” he said. “We’ve got something to prove. And for us seniors, we have to play to the best of our ability; you only have so many games left in the ‘Shoe, so you have to make every game count.” It remains to be seen if Stoneburner will be on the field when the Buckeyes begin the 2012 season as he and redshirt junior offensive lineman Jack Mewhort were arrested Saturday morning for allegedly obstructing official business. Sunday, Stoneburner and Mewhort were suspended from the football team until their cases are resolved. Stoneburner and Mewhort did not immediately respond to The Lantern’s request for comment regarding their arrests. With the 2011 season in mind, Stoneburner said he is still confident that the Buckeyes will be on people’s radar this year. “We’re always going to be circled on opponents’ schedules. It’s Ohio State,” he said. “No matter what kind of year we had the year before, no matter who’s our coach, quarterback, we’re always going to be circled because it’s Ohio State.” When the seniors and the rest of the Buckeyes take the field on Sept. 1 this year, Simon said it’s going to be business as usual. “We’re going to go out there and play for each other and for Buckeye Nation,” Simon said. “And we’re going to have a good time doing it.”
According to manager Lucien Favre, the BVB footballers should take the match about second-from-bottom team Hannover very seriously.Borussia Dortmund is currently in first place of the German Bundesliga. And on Saturday they will be playing against second-from-bottom in the table, Hannover 96.Coach Lucien Favre has warned his players that this match has to be taken seriously.“I have to warn everyone that the three points are far from secure. We need the same level of concentration that we had in Leipzig!” he told the club’s official website.“While it’s true that Hannover lost their last match, I’ve seen a few games of theirs in which they’ve played really well.”“For example, they drew 1-1 in Freiburg and had far more goal-scoring opportunities than their opponents,” he explained.“This was against a Freiburg side that had just come off the back of 3-0 and 2-0 wins against Leipzig and Gladbach respectively. That tells you all you need to know.”Crouch: Liverpool could beat Man United to Jadon Sancho Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Peter Crouch wouldn’t be surprised to see Jadon Sancho end up at Liverpool one day instead of his long-term pursuers Manchester United. But Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou are still out injured, with the possibility of Omer Toprak to play.“He’s been training,” said Favre.“We’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”“It’s hard to give a precise answer. He’s been running during the week – the ball hasn’t been involved just yet, but he’s done a few sprints,” the manager said about Zagadou.“It’s a good situation which we’re really happy with. He’ll get there step by step, but Saturday will come too soon.”And the coach took the opportunity to update about injured Marco Reus.“He’s trained all week. He’s doing well. That alone is really positive,” he concluded.
