(Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images)Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray has until tomorrow to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft, though the Oakland A’s are still trying to get the two-sport star to commit to them for next year and beyond.Oakland took Murray in the top 10 of last April’s MLB Draft and gave him a signing bonus of nearly $5 million. However, after originally saying he would focus on baseball, Murray is reportedly leaning toward the NFL.Earlier today, reports emerged that the A’s were sending a large contingent of team officials, including team president Billy Beane, to meet with Murray.  Their goal was to convince him to choose baseball. Now, the latest report from WFAA’s Mike Leslie indicates Murray might want big money to choose hardball over the gridiron.According to a source close to the situation, Kyler Murray’s number is $15M.He wants big time money to stick with baseball, otherwise he will enter the NFL draft tomorrow. The A’s are doing everything they can, sending their top brass, led by Billy Beane, to meet with him.— Mike Leslie (@MikeLeslieWFAA) January 13, 2019If this report from Leslie is accurate, let’s assess this from both sides. It makes sense for Murray to want to get as much guaranteed money as possible, particularly if he really wants to play football. However, allocating that much to him might not be worth it for Oakland. That is a lot of money for a college outfielder who isn’t a sure bet to make the major leagues.Obviously, the A’s love Murray’s talent, but he’s regarded as a prospect who needs time to develop. We’ll see how this all turns out soon.last_img read more
